Hampshire Book Award 2017

The shortlist for this year’s Hampshire Book Award was announced yesterday. The criteria is that the book be in paperback, to have been published between August 2015 and July 2016 and be suitable for a year 8 pupil to read.

The year 8 student judges who will help decide the winner of this award, met with a librarian from the Schools Library Service and were shown the six shortlisted books.

The shortlisted books are:

The Bubble Boy by Stewart Foster

Island by Nicky Singer

My Name’s Not Friday by Jon Walter

Night Vision by Ella West

Railhead by Philip Reeve

River of Ink: Genesis by Helen Dennis

The judges will have until the beginning of July to read all six books and meetings will be arranged so that the books can be discussed. At the end of this period all the students will attend a discussion/voting event on 4th July 2017 where they will discuss the books with pupils from other schools taking part.  They will then be asked to vote for their favouite book and the overall winner will be announced.

The books will only be available for the judges to read at the moment but there is a selection of previous winners and shortlisted titles available in the library.
