Wessex Schools Literary Festival

This year’s festival starts next Monday, 27th June 2016 and runs until Friday, 8th July 2016.

Events at Thornden start with an art day for members of Mr. Cast’s art club.  They will attend a workshop given by local artist and cartoonist Simon Chadwick as well as a papercraft workshop (upcycling books) run by Miss Pothecary.

Performance poet Adisa will be visiting on Friday, 1st July 2016 and will run workshops with groups of pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9.Adisa

Author and screenwriter Andy Briggs will be visiting on Tuesday, 5th July 2016 when he will talk to all year 7 pupils in the morning and then to Y6 pupils in the afternoon as part of their New Intake Day.  Copies of Andy’s books are available to borrow from the Library.  His books can be purchased on the day (or pre-ordered) and Andy will be signing books.Andy-Briggs

‘Get Caught Reading’ will take place during the second week of the Festival.  Any pupil ‘caught’ reading by a member of staff will be given a raffle ticket which can then be entered into a prize draw.

During the fortnight there will be various other activities that pupils can take part in.  These include a daily tutor time quiz, a lunchtime quiz, opening line competition in the daily bulletin, golden ticket hunt and bake off.
